Today Sarah got her rotation assignments for the next 18 months of med school. She starts with surgery, which is by far the most demanding, both time-wise and in intensity. The madness begins on Jan 3rd, so the new year is going to be very trying for our little family. Please, if you have an extra nap or two, take them and send them to her! She might even be able to repay you with a little gall bladderectomy or some sort of suturing when it's needed. But you might want to wait until February or March before you start making serious requests...
In other news, I'm headed out to Cali again next week to present my dissertation research and file the paperwork to complete my Ph.D! It's a pretty exciting time. I heard back from one of my dissertation committee members today; he had a few small comments but signed it already. That is such a relief, in some way that isn't quite clear to me. I'm sure my adviser will sign, so it all comes down to the third professor. I have to give a seminar on the material (Cal doesn't require a defense of the dissertation), but I've presented parts of it a dozen times before so it's not going to be too stressful. I'll fly back on Dec. 16 to take my beautiful wife to a ball celebrating the end of her med school coursework. With that, the holiday season and fun celebration really begins. Woo!
