Just ran across this great idea - the fib, an all-American response to the sonnet and haiku. Like those others, it's easy to learn but may take a lifetime to master... So here goes my first try:

I'm exchanging my old 1/20 HP plastic wastebin-sized paper shredder unit. Exchanging it for this giant industrial shredder: (See it shred a BMW Here) Does it get any cooler than transforming the neighbor kid's crappy broken-down Honda into a lovely pile of shavings? No more leaking oil and radiator fluid on MY lawn, boy!
You can view more videos of it here: http://www.ssiworld.com/watch/watch-en.htm. I thought the Medical waste one was particularly disturbing. Who would sift through shredded medical waste with their bare hands?

Top of Haleakala Crater - We've been up for over 2 hours, expecting sunrise within the next hour or so. What posesses rational humans to get up and watch the subrise, I'm not really sure. Whatever it is, I guess the idea was great over wine yesterday afternoon... Well, a 2 hour drive and 10,000 vertical feet later, we're here. And I'm tired. Everyone else is asleep, and I don't dare doze off lest we wake up with the sun in our faces! Haha...

About 9pm last night we finally left Sarah's old apartment. What a long haul it's been to get moved - really made us question our choice of a 3rd floor apartment. Packing took a bit too long since our stuff was spread throughout the thousands of boxes stacked high around the apt. But after a few hours of sleep and a couple of snoozes, we're on our way to sun & fun. Aloha, stress and work. Aloha, relaxation.

Yesterday, I blogged from the airport while waiting for my flight to Houston. (It didn't work so today I'm trying again.) While going deaf waiting for my flight to Houston, I should say. I just don't understand how/why people keep putting up with this mess of noise pollution that gets more and more prevalent in our world every year. But the Oakland Airport has taken it to a new level. You've got the muzak ever-present in the background. And it's at a tolerable level, even if the sounds make you want to commit sepaku. Then there are...

... Won't you pack your bags, we'll leave tonight. Yesterday we got the majority of the important arrangements settled for our summer trip to Hawaii - awww, yeah! Hotels, flights, the whole shebang. Sarah and I will head to Maui on July 8th through the 15th, and then it's on to the big island, returning the 20th. That's right folks, 11 full days of fun and sun. We can't wait for this getaway. (More info soon-ish)

This weekend was a great break from my overwhelming work. Sarah and I met in Chicago, ate Uno's pizza, stayed in the wacky and fun (they give you a temporary pet goldfish to make you feel more welcome if you ask for it) Hotel Monaco. On Friday, we drove up to Milwaukee and stayed with Susan and Aaron for a couple of nights. The weather was pretty nice, and we walked around a bit, had some great food and coffee, and wow the wine! Snoo and Sarah cooked me a fabulous birthday dinner of Steak wrapped in prosciutto and basil, some tasty mushrooms and spinach, and closed out with amazing chocolate mousse with chocolate-dipped strawberries!
I opened a few birthday gifts there; an iPod from Cindy and Greg and FM-transmitter, car adapter, and case from Sarah. Aaron helped me get it all set up and I have been a dancing fool ever since then. Remember those commercials with the black sillhouette with a white iPod? That's me. Only not quite so hip and cool...

I was buying lunch the other day and my fiver brought a recent Wells Fargo ATM receipt with it. Imagine the shock, the horror when I suddenly was staring at myself! It was about 30 minutes before the adrenaline wore off, and I was able to pick my jaw up off the floor and pay for my burger.

Sarah needs THIS. Like NEEDS, needs. It's called clocky. It's a shag-covered alarm-clock with wheels. Every day when you snooze, it runs off to a different nook or cranny, so you have to get out of bed to turn it off.
Then again, lately Sarah just sleeps through the first alarm so a snooze triggered machine wouldn't be much good. Hmm...

Yesterday I started reading Holy Blood, Holy Grail. I'd been thinking about it for a while, ever since I read the Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown. The latter was a fun novel, very much pulp but purported to be based on some level of fact and history. Of course, there was also Mr. Brown's wit and a few linguistic treats going for it too, but the central idea upon which his mystery thriller was based was completely new to me. That idea, of course is...
